Originally, Ray was considered a beta to alpha level mutant. But since absorbing the essence of four of his alternate selves, his power has grown to what could be considered to be Omega Level. Even though he lost his X-Factor gene after M-Day, Ray somehow managed to retain his powers.
Healing Factor: Demonstrated by his ability to avoid death, Raiden possesses a healing factor. Though nowhere near as fast as the best of them, Ray is able to heal from life threatening wounds within minutes to hours. It's assumed that he may be an External, his healing is independently powered by his energy powers, or that his healing factor comes from another source.
Telepathy: While minor, Ray possess some sort of telepathic ability, allowing him to communicate with others mentally. He tends to speak with other telepaths, given his low power with this. He also possesses a psionic link with his sister, Naomi, which allows them to communicate more efficiently with each other than with anyone else.
Telekinesis: Raiden is able to use psionic energy to manipulate and control objects with the mind without physically touching them, especially over long distances.
Phoenix Force: Given to him via his absorption of an alternate reality Ray named Chaos, and his further assimilation with his future self, Zanarkan (that future has been wiped from existence), Raiden possessed fragments of the Phoenix Force, allowing him to tap into the cosmic entity in possession of Jean Grey and his mother, Claire Madison. Ray had little skill in using the Phoenix, and often refused to use its power at all. But when it was used (often brought on by rage), it increased his power levels. In his defiance of his fate and his refusal to die in order to save Hope Summers,, his Phoenix left him and departed to the White Hot Room and has yet to return.
Weaknesses
Despite his healing factor, Ray is capable of being killed, and has come close to doing so on several occasions.
Strength level: Ray possesses above average human strength and agility for a man his age, height, and build who engages in intensive regular exercise.
Fighting Skills: Raiden possesses extensive knowledge of the Chinese martial arts Baguazhang and Kung Fu, as well as the Japanese martial arts of Battojutsu, Kenjutsu, Iaijutsu, Karate, and Ninjutsu.

Powers
Energy Manipulation: Ray has the mutant ability to absorb and manipulate large quantities of ambient electromagnetic energy, internalizing it and transferring it to the visible spectrum as blue energy. The aura tends to plume off of his body, trailing like fire and smoke, often trailing in the direction of strong wind currents.
- Energy Blasts: Raiden can manipulate the energy he controls into concussive waves of energy of varying strengths. This is demonstrated by the energy forming a plume of energy forming around the origin of the blast before jettisoning out as a wave of energy, flowing along a predetermined path. Typically, the strength of the blast is gauged by the size of the blast. Though the full strength of his energy attacks are unknown, he has been shown to possess enough power to destroy city blocks, create craters, and even punch a hole into a mountain. He possessed enough control to release the energy blasts from various parts of his body; from fingers, his eyes, and even his knees. By containing the energy and delaying the output until physical contact, Ray can increase the damage his blows do in combat to lower superhuman levels.
- Energy Combustion: Ray can transfer his energy into various objects, from concrete to steel, causing it to pulse blue with energy. Upon releasing his hold on the object, the energy becomes violent, causing the object to explode a short time afterward. The larger the object, the more energy is required to charge it, and the longer the process takes. Since he controls the energy, Ray can control the time of the explosion if he so chooses by leaving energy strands barely visible to anyone but him, which he snags on to create the explosion. If too much energy is used, and he tires himself out, once his body stops touching the object, it will explode at a random time, or explode on him even if his body is touching it.
- Energy Sense: Ray is able to detect the energy sources of other living beings. Mutants and others with super powers register at a higher level than normal people, while those with energy manipulating powers, or those infused with high levels of energy like the Hulk, register higher or lower depending on their current power level.
- Power Suppression: If need be, Ray is able to lower his own power levels, decreasing the amount of energy he can access in combat, or outright shutting down his powers altogether. This allows him to slip by certain security devices or register himself as a significantly lower threat than he really is.

Telekinesis: Raiden is able to use psionic energy to manipulate and control objects with the mind without physically touching them, especially over long distances.
- Levitation: Raiden can use the psionic energy to move objects off of the ground and into the air. One airborne, the objects can be moved in any direction he chooses with minimal effort. Raiden possesses the finesse to manipulate small objects, such as a pencil, and enough raw power to levitate a tank twenty feet into the air with maximum effort.
- Force Fields: Raiden can use the psionic energy to form nigh transparent walls or domes of blue energy, protecting himself and others from harm. The maximum width of the TK fields is ten feet. It's unknown how strong his fields are, but he has been able to withstand energy blasts comparable to his own with no significant problem.
- Physical Enhancement: Ray can use his telekinetic powers to enhance his movements to superhuman levels, increasing his speed, reflexes, and agility. This tends to cause physical strain, so he rarely does this beyond increasing his leaping ability.
- Flight: Ray is able defy gravity to propel himself through the air with telekinetic force. His maximum speed is unknown, though it's most likely less than 300 miles per hour. Ray hardly ever flies, due to the physical strain.
- Shockwaves: By stimulating the air, Ray can create telekinetic bursts, allowing him to blow beings, objects, and energy attacks off course. His strongest feat was his mimicking of Banshee's sonic scream, though it left him significantly drained afterwards.
Rage Boost: Possibly through some sort of psychic trigger, Ray is capable of receiving a significant boost to his power in bouts of extreme stress and anger in a similar manner to Hulk's ever increasing strength and Thor's Warrior Madness. He doesn't gain any significant control over his powers and mostly gets a massive surge in raw power output, resulting in a lot of destructive potential with seemingly no upper limit, and this was prior any interaction with the Phoenix Force. Limitless potential does come with the downside of being mostly a psychic blank slate, acting on instinct, as well as him becoming incredibly tired and on the verge of passing out the moment his mind returns to normal. There's no known cause.

History
A quick summary: Ray was born in Detroit, has a sister, a mutant mom and a father who's a crazy super solider/scientist for Weapon Plus who experimented on his own family after an accident. The children escaped, Ray found the X-Men, fought in a school riot, got nearly killed by a fake Magneto, fought and seemingly killed his dad a bunch of times, fought a bunch of evil alternate versions of himself (one was a demon!), met himself from the center of the multiverse, left the X-Men to join Iron Man's side in the superhero Civil War unwillingly, found himself back with the X-Men, left the X-Men to hunt Weapon Plus, joined the X-Men again, got nuked hunting for the Mutant Messiah and got better, and eventually got fed up with Cyclops' leadership and left the X-Men! For good!
Ray Madison is the son of a Weapon Plus super soldier-scientist named Nathan Pliskin and woman named Claire Madison. The combination of his fathers genetically modified body, his mother possessing an X-Factor gene, and Ray's father making a pact with an ancient demon named Zuii blessed him with great potential for power. Family life was normal, even with his odd background, up until a few years after his sister, Naomi was born. Ray's powers manifested early and were uncontrollable, so seeing potential for an experiment, Ray's father dumped him off at an orphanage that was a front for Weapon Plus, where he was largely raised by a man who never gave his name to Ray, but is someone Ray would eventually come to know as Vamp; Vamp himself being another soldier for Weapon Plus.
Vamp trained Ray in combat and was not entirely in line with the goals of Weapon Plus, and began to hint at Ray for ways he could escape the orphanage, often bringing up a place called Xavier's School For Gifted Youngsters. Though he doesn't entirely remember, Ray was occasionally brainwashed and sent off on assassination missions. When Vamp discovered this, he decided it was time to make an escape considering Ray's young age at the time.
Their escape was interrupted by Weapon Plus Forces, and Vamp sacrificed himself to allow Raiden a chance to escape. Once he was free, he wandered for weeks and months until he arrived at the Xavier Institute, where he was welcomed by Jean Grey. He was strictly a student until the invasion of Khan and his forces from Dimension X, where he proved his combat ability after he was captured and placed in a prison ship. He was promoted to one of the student teams of the X-Men after.
Later on, Ray would come to meet another student by the name of Dominique, who he would grow attached to and form a brotherly bond with. When the Weapon Plus program eventually attacked the X-Men, they would kidnap Dominique, put Raiden into conflict with his former mentor Vamp, and lead to a run in with his father, introduce him to his uncle, and reveal that Dominique was actually his younger sister, whose real name was Naomi. In a fight to the death with his father, Ray discovered that his mother was being kept in stasis by his father and Weapon Plus, and psychically prodded the X-Men to allow her to die in peace when Nathan was defeated, leaving Ray disappointed that he couldn't fully reunite with his family.
A brief brush up with an evil, older variant of himself from another universe named Chaos lead into a conflict against the Phalanx that resulted in Chaos dying and his psyche being implanted into Ray's own mind. This culminated during the student riot at Xavier's, where a grave injury resulted put Ray in a coma and reawakened a demon named Zuii, an ancient being his father made a pact with in order to create the ultimate weapon; who was also the source of Nathan's duplicate of Ray's powerset. Ultimately, the X-Men were able to put down the riot as well as help Ray defeat the demon.
In meeting another alternate universe version of himself named Zanarkan, Chaos was restored to life and physical form, both were seemingly killed when Zuii returned and allied himself with Nightcrawler's father, Azazel, during the Draco War. Zanarkan and Chaos merged with the essence of Ray, which gave him enough power to finally kill Zuii. This was also Ray's first brush with the Phoenix Force, as the entity bonbed with Chaos in his native universe and reawakened in Ray.
When some of the X-Men were taken over 100 years into the future by Cassandra Nova, they encountered a version of Ray who was going by the name Zanarkan, who had unlocked the full power of the Phoenix Force. This Zanarkan manifested his Phoenix into an egg prior to his death and gave it to the X-Men to deliver to his past self prior to him sacrificing his own life to allow the X-Men to return home. When they returned, the Phoenix Egg merged with Raiden.
Like the rest of the X-Men, Ray was trapped in the Scarlett Witch's altered reality in the House Of M incident, and at the end of the event, he and his sister were two of mutants who had their X-Genes removed. Somehow, both managed to maintain their powers. Sometime after, a series of events, starting with his father returning and aiding Weapon Plus in kidnapping his sister and some of his friends, the psychic backlash caused the Stamford Incident and the loss of life that resulted, and then the Superhuman Registration Act that followed, Ray quit the X-Men and joined the side of Iron Man and the Registration long enough to get weapons, equipment, and funding. He then departed with his uncle, Snake, and some other allies to go hunt down Weapon Plus while the other heroes were busy fighting each other.
As progress stalled, a disgruntled Ray left the group and started to wander the world solo, attempting to track down leads using his own methods. As money became scarce, Raiden started to use his talents in the underworld, becoming an assassin or bodyguard for the highest bidder. He wasn't discriminating in his job choices, believing that regardless of what he did, whether it was protecting a drug shipment in South America to killing a peaceful politician in the Middle East, the ends justified the means. Amongst the Japanese underworld, he became known as Hitokiri Shippuujinrai, or the "assassin with lightning speed." Ray never took pride in getting his hands dirty, but he managed to amass significant wealth in excess of $10 million, and quite possibly in the $20 million range.
Eventually, Raiden found his way back with Snake and the rest of the team and headed toward England. By chance, Raiden and the others bumped into the X-Men defending London and all of Europe against the combined forces of Albion and Belasco. After the completion of the mission, it was decided that the group would hang around the X-Men for awhile, figuring that it would only be a matter of time before they all ran into Weapon Plus again. With friends and allies alike gunning for the supposed Mutant Messiah, including Weapon Plus, that provided Ray the perfect opportunity to rescue those captured, including his sister.
When the X-Men finally went off to rescue the child, as expected, Weapon Plus was right there. Eventually, Raiden came into conflict with his mind controlled sister, Armitage. He tried to talk her out of the fight, but was unable to due to the nanomachines their father implanted into her body that forced her under his control. The two siblings had an grueling battle that, at the end, left Ray practically dead, with half of his flesh blown off of his body. Thankfully, the sight of seeing the damage she did to her brother snapped Armitage out of the mechanically induced trance as she tapped into her brother's Phoenix, which she then used to free herself and the others from Weapon Plus control.
Ray remained in his butchered state until Xavier's mansion was attacked, and eventually destroyed by a 30 megaton explosion. Ray, along with the X-Man Tytanic, were caught in the epicenter of the explosion, but managed to survive. Kuja survived due to his invulnerability, and Ray survived due to the intervention of his Phoenix, which rapidly healed his body and clothed him in a black variant of the trademark Phoenix outfit. In time, Ray would recover consciousness, though not without consequences. He started to see things that were not there, namely a woman, who taunts him for reasons unknown.
Through their connection, Ray would learn that his nexus-self, Zanarkan, was in serious danger and close to death, so Raiden went along with his sister and the other X-Men to the future in order to save the mutant messiah Hope, Cable, Karenza, and Zanarkan, whom all had gone to the future to protect Hope. It was then Raiden learned of an Askani prophecy that claimed that he was destined to die in order to ensure Hope would survive. Granted, Ray didn't believe this prophecy, even though it seemed to be coming true as the X-Men did battle against the combined effort of Styfe, Cailleach, Dark Althena, and their forces.
When Zanarkan scarified himself to help save Hope, damning both himself and Ray to death, through sheer willpower, Ray managed to keep himself and his nexus-self alive, though at the apparent cost of losing his Phoenix and possibly damning everyone he knew and cared about to death. After Hope was rescued and the X-Men returned to their new home in San Francisco, Ray officially quit the X-Men, but opted to stay nearby in order to be close to his sister and friends that decided to stay on the team.

As the X-Men moved around, Ray remained in San Francisco, keeping out of superhero affairs as much as possible. He intervened when needed during the Vampire invasion among other events, but kept a low profile. When a change in scenery was needed, he moved to Portland, where he currently lives today.
