Bio:
Unlike her sisters Afton and Piper, Sydney was born in London. The family had to venture to the city from the hills of Scotland, and Sydney, then named Winifred, could not wait to make her arrival. And while she did grow up in Scotland, Sydney always had a love of cities that seemed to be born within her.
The MacLeods kept their following of the old religion secret until the girls' mother Sarah went to help a neighbor and was exposed. After she was put to death, their father took them to live in the farthest reaches of Scotland with their grandfather Malcolm. The family seemed to stay safe until George was killed in battle. Malcolm kept moving the family and training the girls in the art he had learned, namely demon hunting. That is where things went even worse.
The girls met up with a demoness on one hunt, unaware that it was the mother of their half sister Prudence. With her dying breath, the demoness cursed Sarah's daughters--Afton, Piper, Sydney and Rose--to lives without love. Sydney took the curse to heart more than the others and has more or less sabotaged her love life ever since.
Sydney may be the most reckless when it comes to fighting, but until now she has also been the one least likely to feel comfortable in her own magical skin. She found a home with the X-Men for a time, but her reckless and restless heart and her unrequited love for a man named Dante Walker led her to walk away from Salem Center with nary a word to anyone. Her sister Rose ran after her, but both of them got bounced to another dimension thanks, they have since found out, to the magic-gone-amok work of the Scarlet Witch.

When the sisters came back from that adventure, they rejoined the X-Men, and for a time Sydney and Dante seemed to be the most "together" pairing in what was dubbed The Scooby Gang. Not that Sydney didn't, many times, almost blow it all to hell. She's very good at making a mess of her own life most of the time.
(I need to go back and try to fill in some of the blanks here because there was a lot of magical stuff the sisters did to resurrect Rose at one point, as well as plot points with Ray's Trio, the Clan MacFeorais and a character named He Ying, or as she was called, Little Miss Whippy Hair)
Then, well, some stupid quest by the Clan MacFeorais sort of messed up the world for many magical folks. The Scoobies went their own ways, and Sydney found herself back at Buckland Academy, the Hogwarts in Edinburgh equivalent to Xavier's hallowed halls in the USA. In her heart, Syd knows she will see Dante again one day. She's waited her whole life for someone who can genuinely make her smile, and he's it.
