For a time, Colin worked as a SHIELD agent, hence Fury's desire to keep him on side, but Colin got sick of the old man's bull and joined the X-Men to be around his actual family.
Like his father, Colin can be a bit of a lone wolf, and as time progressed, he vanished from this world and ended up in Dimension X with his supposed twin brother Duncan and Kari's brother Branan. Colin and Duncan come from the same future time point as their sister Hallia, but the exact lefts and rights of the family dynamic have always been a tad fuzzy. That world's Kari died when she and Hallia crossed to this world and fought alongside the X-Men in The Summers War.
