(X-Holiday) Atlantis...Part 22

Colin waded through all of the gathering mutants, gritting his teeth against the growing anxiety. Manoeuvring across the room being careful to avoid touching anyone he came close too. After what seemed like an eternity Colin found the bathroom and slipped into the room quietly still clutching the potential freedom to his chest. He was still dubious about this whole thing. It seemed to easy that a solution to all of his problems could fall out of the sky with no cost of concern. Colin had grown pessimistic in his youth but then so had many of the persecuted mutants that he had met on the streets. Their hope had been stolen from them and their wills broken. Being ignored by society and hated for simply being born. The irony was that any normal human could become a mutant in their adolescence. Colin was unaware if doctors could identify mutants from birth. If that ever became possible then mutants would be wiped out.

The young mutant took a deep breath and walked to the sink where he could inspect himself in the mirror positioned over the basin. He looked tired and weary but lack of sleep and constant fear for ones own survival would do that. Colin looked at the marble between his fingers and took another deep breath.

“Well here goes nothing.” He muttered to himself before stripping down to his underwear and breaking the marble against his scrawny chest.
